Page Alert

The Pager Notification Network that Keeps You Informed!

Page-Alert Defined

Page-Alert is a paging notification network developed by local radio hobbyist, consultant, and columnist, Michael Redman. It is designed for those who enjoy, or in some cases have a need to obtain up-to-the minute information on active area radio frequencies without constantly having to monitor or scan hundreds of radio channels.

Page-Alert was formed in 1993 by Michael Redman and Al Ducheck as a digital paging network, presenting the frequency of the event followed by an incident code. In 1996, the program was expanded to permit alpha-numeric paging, providing even more information about breaking events in the area. Volunteer dispatchers monitor local events, then send pages describing the incident.

Page-Alert is the premiere notification network in the St. Louis metropolitan area, and the only area system providing information on major and significant public safety events and convective weather outlooks occurring in the coverage area. As members increase, so will covered events. Page-Alert is provided by American Messaging Services (formerly Pac-Tel, Air-Touch, and Verizon).

Joining Page Alert

Each subscriber must purchase an “alpha-numeric” pager through American Messaging Services as well as monthly subscription service. Several numbers will be assigned to the pager: one for Page-Alert pages and one for your personal access number. Dispatchers volunteer their time- Page-Alert is a non-profit operation. The only charges are for the pager and pager service. Contact the American Messaging Services Company for monthly charges. They will provide further details on charges, registration, and billing procedures.

Also available are datacasts of current news, sports, weather forecasts, business updates, etc. (these services do not cause the pager to beep or vibrate). The Page-Alert Pager becomes your news and information center. You may send pages to your personal pager number from any touch-tone telephone. It is also possible to send electronic mail to the pager. Severe weather outlooks and updates are provided by Page-Alert dispatchers, sometimes 2 or 3 days ahead of severe weather outbreaks. The support of Page-Alert by the American Messaging Services Company is greatly appreciated and Page-Alert is only available through them. Pages are not sent to other paging providers or through cell phones.
